Dear Chocolate

Dear chocolate,
I have a lot that
I'd like to say about the way you treat me;
subliminally screaming out,
eat me
eat me.

You are my drug of choice;
a psychoactive cocktail
to quiet the noise.
Endorphins and serotonin,
a nibble of you
gets my senses are goin',
body moanin',
for more.

Dear chocolate,
I just can't quit you.
You are my addiction,
thank God you're an acceptable one in the society we live in.

I'm strung out on you,
headaches and feeling blue without you.
But thank God you're an acceptable addiction.

Not in your purest form,
the way Cacao was intended,
I crave you with extra sugar and chemicals,
so splendid!

You see natural substances
are a controversial topic;
but oh how we love
a man made psychotropic.

Dear chocolate
if you were a different plant,
and named Mary Jane,
now that'd be insane.
Although you both make us happy,
some plants just aren't allowed in society.

because you're allowed to feel peaceful
and you're allowed to feel happy,
as long as,
in the long run
you actually feel crappy.

That's why prescription pills
and junk food like you,
are celebrated;
but plants that bring healing,
just aren't tolerated.

Thank God you're an acceptable addiction.
If people thought I was an addict...
oh the friction.
No one can trust an addict,
a dirty filthy addict,
a hopeless derelict.

But not you dear Chocolate.
You are a household staple,
in every Christmas platter
and Valentine's tablwe.

What would the world be without you?
oh that's right--
blue;
and
irritable,
head aching,
'cuz we're ignorantly mistaking---
you;
for a temporary bliss bar,
and not the addictive drug that you are.

Thank God you're an acceptable addiction. Getting hooked on you
won't lead to arrest or conviction;
but it could lead to
acne,
obesity,
heart disease,
and a whole lot of other things...

but none of at matters.
I turn a blind eye,
to the fact that I just can't function
without you and I.
Me and you
we're stuck like glue.
I just can't quit you.
So thanks for being an acceptable addiction.
